Dr. Carolyn Denton and Friends Presents: The Best Practices of Literacy Coaching
June 16, 2008 - June 20, 2008
Location: The Holiday Inn Harrisburg-West, PA
This Conference will be focused on effective literacy coaching. Many reading teachers and reading specialists are being asked to provide support and guidance to their professional peers through a process called coaching. Coaching has become a popular model in schools to provide professional development and support to improve the instructional skills of teachers, and the reading/literacy skills of students.
Unfortunately, few teachers who are being given the role of "coach" are receiving sufficient training or support to adequately perform the role. Many teachers are expected to learn how to coach as they are performing the new job! This challenging situation is complicated by the fact that very few administrators have an understanding of this new role for their staff members. The purpose of this seminar is to (a) DEFINE various ROLES for reading coaches and (b) IDENTIFY and TEACH the skills and competencies required to be a skillful reading coach, for coaches and administrators.
