Description:
In this highly readable book, Allen shares her experiences as a K-5 literacy coach. Her description of how she set up her coaching/resource room for teachers is useful. She talks about how she has thought through many tasks that coaches are typically assigned: setting up and leading study groups, doing in-classroom coaching, organizing literacy assessment, and leading particular projects (in this case around fluency). She also reviews how she schedules her time and does budgeting. This is a very practical book with many helpful charts that one can adapt to his/her own school. A new coach can learn many tips about fulfilling the role of a literacy coach from this book.
