Description:
This article addresses the unique circumstances of coaching a specialist teacher, one who teachers students with special needs such as developmental disabilities and ESL speakers. The authors encourage coaches to use effective collaboration and go on to define what effective collaboration looks like. Collaboration, they say, is more than just getting along; it is a process that enables people with diverse backgrounds to help solve mutually agreed-upon problems. Ideas for how to foster a collaborative school include addressing issues and establishing mutual goals and facilitating opportunities for peer coaching. The authors emphasize collaboration as an effective tool for student success.
