Creating and Revising Literacy Coaching Programs: Considerations
Add your literacy coaching programIndividual schools, groups of schools, school districts, and even state level literacy programs need to consider many aspects of literacy coaching in order to build successful programs. Everyone impacted by a coaching program – the coach, the teachers, the principal, the district, and even the parents and students—need to share a common vision and goals. Various aspects of the coaching program need to fit together well and align with other on-going forms of professional development. Otherwise, coaching programs need to be revised soon after they are launched because important features have not been carefully considered. The Literacy Coaching Clearinghouse Advisory Board has developed the following list of potential considerations to help develop intentional, literacy coaching programs. The questions are more full discussed in the LCC brief – Coaching Considerations: FAQs Useful in the Development of Literacy Coaching.
The LCC would like to encourage individual schools, groups of schools, districts, or state level programs to fill in the template and submit it to the LCC as part of a growing data base on literacy coaching programs. It is important that the literacy coaching community begin to share examples of programs that are working to improve both teachers’ literacy instruction and students’ literacy learning. Examining examples of profiles already entered will be helpful to educators developing new programs and others wanting to make revisions and improvements to existing programs.

When filling out the Add Your Program, the LCC is asking for particular demographic information about both the district and the literacy coaching program. This data will allow users to sort entries to find information that seems helpful. We hope that educators will fill out as much of the demographic information as possible, but we also realize that some information may not be available in every case.
We want to thank you for sharing information about your literacy coaching program with other users of this site!
